The Voyager 1 model was born via a request from John John Florence who asked to make a board that would improve on every aspect of his already world-conquering surfing. Knowing the variety of waves JJF and other team riders encounter on tour, Jon Pyzel started working on a new shape that would help John John rip in weaker waves while still being able to perform in good quality waves.
This board works in good surf but still carries speed and flow when the waves are weaker and less curvy. The flatter entry rocker through the front of the board all the way to under the front foot adds speed, flow and drive. The tail has a decent amount of rocker in the last 6 inches to make it loose and sensitive.
The Voyager 1 has a clean outline with a hip creating a pivot point through snappy turns. A single concave runs through the entire bottom allowing the board to get on top of the water and maintain speed, even in weaker waves. The fuller, soft rails complement the concave and keep the board from feeling catchy and make it less likely to dig rail.
John John named this model after the 1977 NASA interstellar explorer, Voyager 1.
This model has been proven to offer all the best elements of high-performance surfing in everyday surf conditions and all kinds of waves.
